Punjab Information and Culture Minister Azma Bokhari has backed former TV host and newly minted politician Iqrar ul Hassan after an airport altercation, calling on Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi to take swift action against the FIA official involved.
The incident reportedly occurred when Iqrar-ul-Hassan, head of Awam Raj Tehreek, had a heated exchange with an FIA officer upon returning from abroad.
Reacting to the incident, Azma Bokhari strongly condemned the official’s behaviour, stating that government service, especially roles involving a uniform, carries significant responsibility.
She emphasised that it is unacceptable to humiliate members of the public, particularly at service counters meant to assist citizens.
“A uniform represents the state,” she said, adding that misconduct by an official not only damages personal credibility but also tarnishes the institution’s reputation.
She further noted that such incidents reflect a serious lack of moral training among officials stationed at public service points. Addressing Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Bokhari expressed hope that he would recognise the seriousness of the matter and take immediate notice.
She stressed that individuals in uniform, who are expected to guide and assist passengers, must not engage in taunting or inappropriate remarks. Such behaviour, she concluded, should never be tolerated in government service.
