The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has sealed an illegal cigarette manufacturing facility in Karachi and seized machinery, raw materials and finished cigarettes worth millions of rupees.
The operation was carried out by the Inland Revenue Enforcement Squad of Regional Tax Office-II Karachi after officials received confidential information about the facility.
FBR officials dismantled the cigarette-making machinery and moved it into government custody. Large quantities of raw materials and finished cigarettes were also confiscated and transferred to the tax office.
An FIR has been registered before the Court of the Special Judge (Customs & Taxation) in Karachi.
The authorities have also launched a criminal investigation and further legal proceedings against those allegedly involved in the illegal operation.
The operation was led by Deputy Commissioner Inland Revenue Baqir Ali and coordinated by Commissioner Inland Revenue Dr Aslam Marri.
Chief Commissioner Inland Revenue Zafar Rafiq Siddiqui supervised the action.
The FBR said the operation was part of efforts to crack down on illegal cigarette manufacturing and protect government revenue.
