Stranger Things star, Finn Wolfhard, is currently facing backlash from Swifties on Instagram following his recreation of Kanye West’s interruption of Taylor Swift at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards during a live performance with his band.
The Canadian actor’s most recent Instagram post, has been flooded with comments from Taylor Swift fans in response to his VMA performance.
Despite the criticism, the actor has not disabled his comments section nor has he addressed the backlash.
During his performance at the VMA, Finn Wolfhard echoed Kanye West’s infamous line, “Hey Taylor, I’m really happy for you, I’ll let you finish, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time!”.
Kanye West, also known as Ye, faced major criticism for uttering these words after he interrupted Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech over a decade ago.
Following the backlash regarding the line, West took to Twitter to defend himself, stating that he was paying a compliment and was, in fact, quoting the pop star.
“I reached out to Taylor and engaged in an hour-long conversation with her regarding the line, and she found it amusing and gave her approval,” he tweeted.
However, representatives for Swift responded, claiming that she was not informed about the derogatory line and had “warned him against releasing a song with such a pronounced misogynistic message”.
Their involvement has ignited a discussion throughout the US political landscape concerning the role of celebrities in political endorsements.
