Lahore traffic police to register FIR against traffic violations

Lahore Traffic Police (LTP) will register a first information report (FIR) against motorists involved in serious traffic violations under new measures aimed at curbing dangerous driving and the illegal use of vehicle equipment.

Under the directive issued by the Chief Traffic Officer (CTO), drivers could face criminal proceedings for violations including driving against one-way traffic, overspeeding, dangerous zigzag driving and performing drifts on public roads.

The measures also target the unauthorised use of police flasher lights, blue lights and green number plates.

According to the directive, motorists who conceal, alter or tamper with their vehicle number plates to hide their identities will also face FIRs.

The authorities say these offences will no longer be dealt with solely through traffic fines, with police instructed to take stricter action against those responsible.

The new rules also cover rash and negligent driving, as well as activities that obstruct roads or create risks for other road users.

Police will take action against motorists involved in drifting, dangerous manoeuvres and disorderly behaviour on public roads.

The measures are intended to strengthen enforcement of traffic laws and improve road safety in Lahore.

Motorists are being urged to follow traffic regulations and avoid practices that endanger pedestrians and other road users.

The exact legal consequences in individual cases will depend on the offences and applicable law.
