The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to provide additional funds to municipal administrations facing financial difficulties.
The funds will help clear unpaid salaries and pensions of local government employees.
The Local Council Board has approved the decision and issued official instructions to Tehsil Municipal Officers (TMOs) across the province.
According to the official letter, Tehsil Municipal Administrations (TMAs) cannot spend the additional grants on development projects or other expenses.
The funds to be used only to clear outstanding payments owed to serving and retired employees.
The Local Council Board has made it clear that officials responsible for handling the money to follow these instructions.
Any financial irregularity will be treated as a serious violation.
The concerned Tehsil Municipal Officer (TMO) and Tehsil Officer Finance (TOF) will be held directly responsible for any misuse.
Authorities have warned that officials found violating the rules could face legal proceedings and departmental penalties.
Municipal accounts to be checked
Moreover, the Local Council Board has also ordered strict monitoring to ensure transparency.
According to the instructions, the accounts of all concerned TMAs will undergo a detailed examination on November 10.
Officials must provide certificates confirming that the additional funds were spent only on salaries and pensions.
Regional Municipal Officers have been directed to personally monitor how the grants are used.
The decision comes as municipal employees across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa continue to face delays in receiving their payments.
Earlier reports highlighted financial difficulties among local government workers due to delayed salaries and pensions.
In October, municipal employees also warned of protests and a possible boycott of services over unpaid dues.
However, the upcoming financial review will examine whether the grants have been used for their intended purpose.
