PDMA Issues Heavy Rain Alert for Punjab from October 5–7, Warns of Flood Risk

Web desk: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued a rain alert for the upper parts of the province, warning of heavy rains and possible flooding from October 5 to 7.

Officials said that intense downpours could increase the flow of water in rivers and canals raising the risk of floods in low-lying areas.

Citizens have been advised to remain alert and follow safety guidelines during the spell.

PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia confirmed that the warning was issued on the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.

He said commissioners, deputy commissioners. And all relevant departments had been directed to stay vigilant and ensure emergency measures were in place.

“All deputy commissioners and other officers should be present in the field to ensure immediate response,” Kathia said.

Weather Outlook

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reported that a well-marked low-pressure system is currently located over the Gulf of Kutch.

This system is pushing moist currents into Sindh and Punjab.

According to PMD’s advisory, windstorms and lightning may damage weak structures such as rooftops, electric poles, billboards, and solar panels in parts of Sindh during the forecast period.

The PDMA said heavy rain is expected in most districts of Punjab, including the upper catchment areas of rivers, which could cause a surge in water levels.

Risk of Flooding

Authorities have expressed concern that the upcoming rainfall may trigger flooding in rivers and canals across Punjab.

Communities living near riverbanks and in low-lying areas are at particular risk.

The PDMA stressed the importance of early preparedness. And urged close coordination among provincial and district-level authorities to manage any emergency situation.

Tomorrow’s Weather Forecast

For tomorrow, Thursday, most parts of the country are likely to remain hot and dry.

However, isolated rain with thunder and wind is expected in upper and central Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Kashmir. Additionally, in Gilgit-Baltistan, Islamabad, the Potohar region, and parts of Sindh.
