The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has revealed plans to start hockey activities in about 1,000 schools nationwide this year.
The initiative will be carried out in partnership with both federal and provincial governments, along with private sector collaborators.
It aims to promote hockey at the grassroots level and discover young talent early on in schools across Pakistan.
Secretary of the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination and President of PHF, Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani, stated that the focus will be on boys and girls aged 10 to 12 years to create a solid foundation for the future of hockey in Pakistan.
“We aim to bring hockey back to schools and reconnect the youth with our national sport. Grassroots development is essential for rebuilding Pakistan hockey,” he mentioned.
Wani further explained that PHF’s vision extends beyond just forming national teams, stressing that a sustainable revival can only happen through well-structured youth development programs.
“This is not a quick fix. We are establishing a foundation for the future by providing opportunities for children across Pakistan to learn and engage in hockey,” he added.
As part of the program, schools will be encouraged to host hockey matches, training camps, and introductory coaching sessions.
PHF also intends to work with educational institutions to ensure consistent student involvement in hockey activities.
The PHF President highlighted that Pakistan has a wealth of untapped talent in both urban and rural regions, and the school-based program will assist in identifying and developing future stars who can represent the country internationally.
