The government of Pakistan has introduced new immigration policies for those who want to travel abroad.

The federal government has unveiled the National Immigration Policy 2026, aimed at promoting safe, orderly and dignified migration while equipping Pakistani workers with the skills needed to compete in the global labour market.

Speaking at the policy’s launch in Islamabad, Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis Chaudhry Salik Hussain said the initiative reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting Pakistanis seeking employment abroad and ensuring they benefit from emerging international opportunities.

The minister said the policy focuses on developing a future-ready workforce in response to rapidly changing global labour market demands and increasing international competition for skilled workers. He added that the framework is intended to align Pakistan’s workforce with international standards and improve access to overseas employment.

According to the government, around 12 million Pakistanis are currently living abroad, contributing not only as representatives of the country but also as a key pillar of the national economy.

Chaudhry Salik Hussain said overseas Pakistanis remitted more than $41 billion during the last fiscal year, describing the inflows as a vital source of support for the country’s economy.

The government said it would work to ensure the effective implementation of the policy, with a focus on safeguarding the rights of overseas Pakistanis, expanding skills development and maximising employment opportunities for Pakistani workers in international markets.
