Usman Buzdar is not joining PPP

Is Usman Buzdar joining PPP

Former Punjab chief minister Sardar Usman Buzdar has no plans to join the Pakistan Peoples Party or any other political party, according to senior journalist Zahid Gishkori and Buzdar’s family.

Clarifying recent speculation, Buzdar’s brother, Jafir Buzdar, also confirmed that the former chief minister has not made any decision to join the PPP. The statement comes after political circles buzzed with rumours following Buzdar’s recent public appearance alongside Yousaf Raza Gillani, the Chairman of the Senate.

Both leaders were seen together in Dera Ghazi Khan, where they had arrived to offer condolences over the death of veteran politician Zulfiqar Khan Khosa. Their presence at the same event led to speculation about a possible political shift by Buzdar, which has now been firmly denied.

Sardar Usman Buzdar, who hails from Taunsa in south Punjab, served as the chief minister of Punjab during the tenure of former prime minister Imran Khan. He remained in office for nearly four years and was considered a close ally of the PTI leadership at the time.

However, Buzdar parted ways with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf following the May 9 incidents, which triggered a wave of political realignments across the country. Since then, his future political direction has remained unclear, fuelling ongoing speculation.

Sources close to the former chief minister say he is currently not considering joining any political party and is maintaining a low political profile. His recent clarification is likely to put an end to rumours about his possible entry into the PPP, at least for now.

Observers note that while Buzdar has distanced himself from active politics, his influence in South Punjab remains significant, and any future decision could carry weight in the region’s political landscape.
