Islamabad authorities have issued a traffic advisory for major roads in the federal capital due to the arrival and departure of foreign delegations, warning commuters of temporary diversions and possible delays.
According to the advisory, temporary diversions may be imposed at different times on key routes, including the Islamabad Expressway, Srinagar Highway, Jinnah Avenue, Murree Road and Club Road.
Motorists have been advised to use Iran Avenue, Margalla Road and Jinnah Avenue as alternative routes where required.
In case of diversions on Faisal Avenue and the Islamabad Expressway, commuters may use Jinnah Avenue and 9th Avenue.
Travellers coming from Korang or affected by closures on nearby roads may use Old Airport Road, Rawal Road, Rawalpindi-Murree Road and 9th Avenue.
People travelling out of Islamabad have also been advised to use 9th Avenue through Jinnah Avenue.
Red Zone entrance from the Serena Hotel side has also been closed on account of security concerns.
Traffic police warned that congestion may increase on alternative routes and advised commuters to begin their journeys at least 20 to 25 minutes earlier than usual.
Commuters were further warned that unannounced VIP movements could take place during the Iranian delegation’s two-day visit. Travellers were advised to keep an additional margin of 45 minutes to one hour before starting their journeys.
Traffic accidents
Meanwhile, a multiple-vehicle accident on 9th Avenue caused heavy traffic jam on the Expressway after Zia Masjid towards Islamabad.
A traffic jam near Golra on Peshawar Road was also reported after a truck overturned near EME College towards 26 Number Chungi.
