People in Karachi are facing serious problems as long as electricity outages continue during an intense heatwave. Many areas of the city are experiencing both scheduled and unexpected load-shedding. This is making daily life for the residents very difficult.
Several reports say that in some neighbourhoods, electricity cuts last more than 12 hours. Residents put forward complaints that power outages often happen without warning. This increases frustration for the residents during the hot and humid weather.
The worst-affected areas include Garden, Lyari, North Karachi, New Karachi, Malir, Korangi, Orangi Town, Manghopir, Surjani Town, Sohrab Goth, and Baldia Town. Even places that normally do not face load-shedding are now experiencing frequent power cuts.
The outages have disrupted normal life across the city. Families are struggling to manage household activities in the extreme heat. Many residents cannot sleep properly at night because fans and air conditioners stop working for hours. Elderly people and patients are facing the most difficulty in these conditions.
Apart from this, many businesses are also suffering from this as they are relying on generators and backup power systems to continue operating. Small shopkeepers need electricity to run fans, lights, fridges, and machines to run work.
Students preparing for matric and intermediate exams are also facing difficulties because the long power cuts are affecting their studies.
Residents have urged authorities to improve the electricity supply and reduce unannounced outages during this peak summer season when electricity demand rises sharply due to the heat wave.
Reports say the growing demand for electricity amid extreme weather has put additional pressure on Karachi’s already stressed power distribution system.
Overall, Citizens are demanding urgent action from authorities to improve power supply and reduce load-shedding in Karachi.
Earlier, a sudden power breakdown at the Dhabeji Pumping Station disrupted Karachi’s water supply system and prompted immediate emergency response from authorities.
Officials said a technical fault in the electricity supply provided by K-Electric caused the breakdown at the facility. The incident affected the second phase of the Dhabeji pumping station, which serves as one of the main water sources for Karachi.
According to a spokesperson of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KW&SC), the sudden power failure led to a pressure fluctuation in the system. The fluctuation damaged two PRCC lines and one MS pipeline, resulting in operational instability at the pumping station.
Officials warned that the disruption could affect the regular water supply to parts of the city if restoration work is delayed. However, they confirmed that technical teams acted quickly after receiving reports of the breakdown.
