Karachi may receive light rain from Monday (today) evening or night until Wednesday as hot and humid weather continues across the city. Rainfall is expected at intervals, meaning some areas may remain dry between spells.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), temperatures in the metropolis could rise to around 40°C. Hot and humid conditions are expected to persist during the day, despite the possibility of rain.
The PMD has forecast light rain and thunderstorms in Karachi between September 14 and 16. The weather activity is linked to a system moving westward from the Bay of Bengal.
Rain expected across Sindh
Several other districts of Sindh are also expected to receive rain, wind and thunderstorms during the current weather spell.
The forecast includes Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Mirpurkhas, Tharparkar, Umerkot, Thatta and Badin. Rainfall in these areas is expected between September 13 and 16, with occasional gaps.
Some areas of Sindh could receive moderate to isolated heavy rainfall. Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Badin, Thatta, Sujawal and Tando Muhammad Khan are among the districts where stronger rainfall activity is possible.
Moreover, the PMD said monsoon currents are entering the upper parts of Pakistan. A westerly wave is also affecting the country and is expected to strengthen on September 14.
Rainfall is also forecast in parts of Balochistan, including Zhob, Barkhan and Musakhel, during the same period.
The wider weather system is expected to bring rain and thunderstorms to several parts of the country. PMD has warned that heavy rainfall could cause urban flooding in vulnerable areas of some cities in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Islamabad.
Karachi rain death toll
The death toll from heavy rains in Karachi reached 19.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has took notice of a tragic building collapse in Mawachh Goth, one of several deadly incidents reported during the downpour.
In Baldia Town’s Mawachh Goth, rescue teams recovered 13 bodies from a collapsed structure, while search operations remain ongoing amid fears that more people are trapped under the debris. Officials stated that several victims had taken shelter in the building during the storm, with reports suggesting many were drug addicts.
