The Lahore Traffic Police launched a major operation targeting overcharging and overloading by public transport vehicles, resulting in actions taken against 831 vehicles and the imposition of hefty fines on offenders.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore, Syed Abdul Raheem Shirazi, conducted visits to Badami Bagh and Niazi Bus Terminal to assess the enforcement strategies against overloading and excessive fare collection.
During his visit, the CTO examined drivers’ licenses, fare lists, and route permits, while also inviting feedback from passengers regarding fares and transport services.
He announced the creation of traffic help desks at bus terminals aimed at assisting passengers and raising awareness about transport regulations.
Shirazi stated that citizens would have the ability to quickly report complaints concerning overcharging and overloading through these help desks and the police helpline 15.
CTO Abdul Raheem Shirazi further mentioned that transport operators would not be permitted to charge fares exceeding the government-approved rates under any circumstances.
He warned that strict measures would also be enforced against transporters who carry passengers beyond the authorised capacity, including those seated on vehicle rooftops or exceeding the allowed number inside the vehicles.
Furthermore, the CTO indicated that only drivers with valid Public Service Vehicle (PSV) licenses would be authorised to operate public transport vehicles.
He also made it clear that the transportation of sacrificial animals in public service vehicles is entirely prohibited.
