Pakistan’s growing coffee sector demands duty cut on unroasted beans

Coffee chains push for tax relief in upcoming federal budget

Pakistan’s emerging coffee industry has pinned its hopes on the federal budget, with coffee chains urging the government to abolish import duties on unroasted coffee beans.

According to details, coffee chain owner Ali Chughtai said that the coffee industry in Pakistan is growing rapidly. He noted that coffee is no longer merely a lifestyle trend or a source of awareness but has become an important part of social interaction and urban culture.

Chughtai pointed out that the same import duty is currently imposed on both roasted and unroasted coffee beans, despite the latter requiring further processing within the country. He emphasised that coffee imports in Pakistan have been rising steadily and called on the government to eliminate duties on unroasted coffee beans.

He said that removing the duty would help businesses offer coffee to consumers at more affordable prices while supporting the growth of the local coffee industry. He also highlighted that the sector is creating new employment opportunities and urged the government to introduce greater convenience and flexibility in the import clearance process for coffee beans.
