PTI allied parties advised not to boycott the budget session

A joint meeting of the parliamentary parties of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and its allied opposition groups was held to deliberate in detail on whether to attend or boycott the upcoming federal budget session.

According to sources, an overwhelming majority—around 99 per cent—of opposition lawmakers expressed their desire to participate in the budget proceedings. It is reported that the opposition is likely to attend the session but plans to register a strong protest during the proceedings.

Most members advised against boycotting the budget session, stressing that the opposition should remain present in Parliament to represent public concerns. However, they left the final decision to Opposition Leader Mahmood Achakzai.

During the meeting, Nisar Jatt stated that the opposition should actively oppose what he termed “anti-people policies” during the budget debate. Amir Dogar said the opposition must attend the session but also act as the voice of the public. Sanaullah Mastikhel also opposed the idea of a boycott, insisting that participation in Parliament was necessary.

Members were of the view that protest within the House is a democratic right and should be exercised without hesitation.

Sources added that the majority opinion within the alliance clearly favours participation in the budget session, while maintaining a strong and vocal opposition stance inside Parliament.
