The Prime Minister (PM) of Pakistan, Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, on Thursday declared the provision of affordable housing for the low-income class a government priority.
According to the details, PM Shehbaz has called for urgent reforms in the housing sector, keeping in view the growing needs of a growing population. Reports say he has directed a comprehensive strategy to stop the uncontrolled spread of cities.
While chairing a review meeting on reforms in the housing sector, PM Shehbaz said that urgent reforms in the housing sector are needed at the hour in view of the growing population.
PM Shehbaz Sharif also declared that the provision of affordable housing for the low-income class is the government’s top priority.
An important briefing was also given in the meeting regarding city planning. It was stated during the meeting that, instead of horizontal expansion in big cities, high-rise buildings and vertical expansion will be encouraged.
PM also expressed concern that uncontrolled urban sprawl is reducing valuable agricultural land, the protection of which is very important.
The following steps were decided to secure investment in the housing sector. Further, it was said that all matters in the housing sector will be completely digitalised so that transparency is maintained and fraud is stopped.
The meeting also made registration with the SECP mandatory for developers and companies working in the housing sector. It was directed that the regulatory framework be simplified and made easier to attract foreign investment.
PM also directed that consultations be held with all provinces for the implementation of the proposed reforms and proposals in the housing sector. So that a uniform and coordinated strategy can be adopted across the country.
Arrests over open manholes in housing societies
Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz Sharif recently warned that housing society owners will face arrest if citizens fall into open manholes in future incidents.
CM Punjab expressed strong anger over the recent death of a three-year-old girl in Faisalabad who fell into an open sewer. She said such negligence will not be tolerated in any housing society.
