After Meghan Markle gave a heartfelt speech in Geneva, some critics argue that she is trying to draw parallels with the late Princess Diana.
On May 17, the former Suits star revealed The Lost Screen Memorial in Geneva, Switzerland, and spoke about the negative impact of online content on children, including eating disorders.
A report from Radaronline.com claimed that Meghan’s actions were a calculated move to be compared to Prince Harry’s mother, who also discussed her struggles with bulimia nervosa, an eating disorder, before her death in 1997.
During her speech in Geneva, Meghan Markle quoted a teenager named Katie who spent months in the hospital due to a severe eating disorder.
She stated, “Children today are being shaped by systems designed to capture attention at any cost, relentless algorithms, exploitative engagement, and endless exposure to harmful content that they are not seeking out.”
A source commented on the backlash, saying, “There were definitely people who felt Meghan’s speech had emotional similarities to Princess Diana’s very public battle with eating disorders and mental health.
“Critics think she knows how impactful those connections are and that bringing up topics so closely tied to Diana inevitably rekindles comparisons between the two women”, the source continued.
Royal expert Jennie Bond states that the Duchess of Sussex’s increased Instagram posts help her shape her own story. “It supports her business goals and her brand,” Bond commented further.
To mark their eighth wedding anniversary, Meghan Markle posted several unseen photos from her and Prince Harry’s wedding on May 19, 2018.
Among the many images in the two posts, there were no pictures of the couple with the royal family.
