Netflix reveals Michael Jackson documentary series after 'Michael' success

A new three-part Netflix series titled “Michael Jackson: The Verdict” about the dramatic 2005 trial of Michael Jackson is scheduled to debut on June 3.

This docuseries examines the pop star’s 2003 allegations, the ensuing trial, and the media frenzy surrounding the courtroom events. It features important figures from the trial, including jurors, witnesses, accusers, and defenders.

The series looks at the case against Jackson from both the prosecution and defense perspectives. Although Jackson was found not guilty on all charges, fascination with the legendary artist and his legal issues has persisted long after his death in 2009.

“Michael Jackson: The Verdict” is produced by showrunner David Herman, who also serves as an executive producer alongside Stourton and James Goldston. The production is handled by Candle True Stories.

Directed by Nick Green, the documentary is also executive produced by Fiona Stourton.

The filmmakers shared with Netflix’s Tudum that it “felt like the right time to revisit the trial and its lingering questions” and they approached it as a historical account, presenting the facts as they unfolded in court.

The filmmakers further added that anyone interested in the Michael Jackson story should feel that this documentary gives them a window into what was largely a closed event and a chance to feel closer to what happened.

The filmmakers also spoke with media personalities who were reporting on the trial. “The aim was to take the audience inside the proceedings and only speak to eyewitnesses who played a part in those events,” the filmmakers stated.
