Mirpur, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), is all set for the general election polling today, as of July 27, 2026.
The people of Mirpur division will be voting today in the first phase of the region’s Legislative Assembly elections, with more than 1.4 million registered voters eligible to cast their ballots across 13 constituencies.
As per the instructions of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), the polling will begin at 8:00am and will continue until 5:00pm in six constituencies of Kotli, three in Bhimber and four in Mirpur district.
ECP has registered 1,401,439 voters across the division. Kotli has the largest electorate, with around 647,000 registered voters, followed by Mirpur with nearly 411,000 and Bhimber with about 342,000.
A total of 296 candidates are contesting the 13 seats, including 135 in Kotli, 63 in Bhimber and 98 in Mirpur. Candidates from the PML-N AJK, PPP AJK, Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party and other political groups are taking part in the election.
The Election Commission has established 2,554 polling stations and 3,701 polling booths across the division. Returning officers in Mirpur, Bhimber and Kotli have completed arrangements for the distribution of ballot papers and other election material.
Security has also been tightened for the vote, with more than 16,000 police personnel deployed across the division, according to police officials.
The AJK Election Commission has divided the wider election process into three phases, citing security and personnel requirements.
Voting in Muzaffarabad Division and the 12 refugee constituencies located across Pakistan is scheduled for August 2, while polling in Poonch Division will take place on August 10.
Local ballot counting and provisional results are expected to be announced on the evening of each respective polling day rather than being held until all three phases are completed.
Authorities have urged political parties and candidates to comply with the election code of conduct and maintain peace throughout the voting process.
