Missile found during excavation work in Islamabad

Security agencies were put on alert after a missile was discovered during excavation work in Islamabad’s I-9 sector on Tuesday.

According to sources, workers unearthed a missile-like object while digging at Plot No. 381, located within the jurisdiction of the I-9 Police Station. The Bomb Disposal (BD) Unit was immediately dispatched to the site after authorities were informed.

The bomb disposal team conducted a detailed examination of the object and safely neutralised it after completing the necessary procedures. Officials later declared the area safe, with no threat remaining to the public.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine how the missile ended up at the site and to establish its origin, type, and whether it was live or had been discarded.

The discovery comes more than a year after an alleged mini-rocket attack on the I-9 Police Station in January last year. At the time, an officer on duty heard a loud explosion but initially assumed it was the sound of a burst tyre, resulting in no immediate response.

During an inspection the following morning, police found impact marks on the station’s wall, leading investigators to suspect that a mini rocket-like projectile had struck the building. A Bomb Disposal Squad was subsequently called to the scene, where forensic evidence was collected for further investigation.
