CENTCOM said it had launched additional operations against targets it described as posing a threat to commercial shipping in the strategic waterway.
The US military also accused Iran of carrying out what it called “unprovoked attacks” on commercial vessels, saying the latest strikes were a response to Iran’s recent actions.
The Iranian authorities have not yet issued a detailed statement on the reported strikes or any possible casualties or damage.
The US military, acting on the orders of President Donald Trump, has launched airstrikes against Iranian military targets near the Strait of Hormuz, according to US officials.
The officials said the operation targeted Iranian military positions around the strategic waterway, including coastal radar installations operated by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
They added that anti-ship missile sites and air defence systems were also among the targets struck during the operation.
According to US officials, the latest wave of strikes is broader in scope than the military operations carried out in recent days.
The strikes come amid heightened tensions in the region, with the United States saying the operation is aimed at protecting freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
