Overseas Pakistanis can now file taxes online from anywhere

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has made it easier for overseas Pakistanis to file income tax returns, according to the reports today.

It has improved and expanded its online IRIS portal. This will let people to file taxes from anywhere in the world.

According to an official statement, the step is meant to help overseas Pakistanis who earn income from Pakistan.

This includes rent from property, business income, agricultural income, and even the investment income, such as dividends and capital gains.

Authorities said that people who earn taxable income in Pakistan must file tax returns. This is a legal requirement.

The Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment has also started an awareness campaign.

It is expected to inform overseas Pakistanis about their tax duties. It also guides them on how to use the online system.

Officials said the updated IRIS system is faster and easier to use. It is also more transparent.

Users can register, declare income, calculate tax, and even submit returns online. They do not need to visit tax offices or use paper forms for this.

Authorities also said that filing tax returns brings benefits. These also include lower withholding tax rates on financial transactions. It also helps in banking work and property matters.

They added that registered taxpayers face fewer problems in financial documents and transactions in Pakistan.

The government said this step is part of efforts to modernise the tax system. It is also expected to improve digital services for overseas citizens.

Officials said overseas Pakistanis play an important role in the economy through remittances and investments. The new system is designed to support them while ensuring legal compliance.

FBR to keep offices open on Saturday, Sunday

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) announced to keep its offices open on Saturday and Sunday, keeping in mind the convenience of taxpayers.

According to the details, the FBR has taken an important decision for the convenience of taxpayers and the timely disposal of relevant matters.

The announcement said that all field offices across the country working under the board will remain open at the end of the current week, between Saturday, May 23 and Sunday, May 24, 2026.
