The federal government has reiterated its commitment to making Pakistan a more attractive place for businesses and investors, saying its National Industrial Policy will focus on supporting local industries, raising productivity and encouraging investment-led economic growth.
The commitment was reaffirmed by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar Khan during a meeting with a delegation from the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), headed by its President Sardar Tahir Mehmood, on Friday.
Officials from the Ministry of Industries and Production also attended the meeting, including Joint Secretary and Export Processing Zones Authority (EPZA) Chairman Freedoon Akram Sheikh.
Speaking to the business delegation, Haroon Akhtar said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the government to provide maximum support to businesses and investors, stressing that the private sector remains central to Pakistan’s economic growth and industrial development.
He said the government’s National Industrial Policy is aimed at creating a stronger industrial base by improving competitiveness, increasing productivity and building an environment that attracts fresh investment.
The special assistant also highlighted progress on the Regulatory Guillotine Reform Programme, which has already been approved by the government. He said the initiative is designed to remove unnecessary regulations, simplify business procedures and create a more transparent and efficient system for companies operating in Pakistan.
According to Haroon Akhtar, reducing bureaucratic hurdles will help improve the ease of doing business while giving investors greater confidence to expand existing operations and launch new projects.
He added that the government remains committed to providing a simple, transparent and investment-friendly business environment that supports industrial expansion and long-term economic growth.
During the meeting, the ICCI delegation appreciated the government’s efforts to promote economic activity, industrial development and public welfare. The delegation also briefed the special assistant on its planned trade mission to Türkiye, which is intended to identify new opportunities for trade, investment and business partnerships between the two countries.
The meeting concluded with both sides agreeing to maintain close coordination between the government and the private sector to strengthen the economy, encourage industrialisation and create more opportunities for investment, exports and employment.
