Pakistan has extended its airspace restrictions on Indian aircraft for another month. The restriction will remain effective until 4:59am Pakistan Standard Time (PST) on September 24.
According to the new report by Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA), the extension took effect on August 18 and applies to all aircraft registered in India, Indian airlines, aircraft leased by Indian operators, and commercial or military aircraft owned or operated by Indian nationals.
Additionally, the latest notification is the 16th notice issued to extend the restriction since Pakistan initially closed its airspace to Indian flights on April 23, 2025.
The restrictions were originally imposed amid tensions between Pakistan and India. Pakistan banned Indian airlines from using its airspace after New Delhi suspended the Indus Waters Treaty following the Pahalgam attack in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
In addition, India accused Pakistan of involvement in the attack. Islamabad strongly rejected the allegation and called for an independent and transparent investigation into the incident.
Moreover, India also closed its airspace to Pakistani airlines on April 30. The continuing airspace restrictions have also affected regional aviation operations. According to the report, this change has caused greater financial impact on India’s aviation sector, while Pakistani aviation has experienced comparatively limited disruption, as Indian airlines unable to cross Pakistani airspace can face longer routes on certain international services.
