Pakistan football is poised to reach a historic milestone as the national team has qualified for the inaugural FIFA ASEAN Cup competition.
This will be the first time Pakistan will participate in a FIFA tournament outside the usual qualification routes to the FIFA World Cup.
Sources suggest FIFA had invited Pakistan to join the newly introduced tournament and the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) has accepted the invitation.
It will be played in Indonesia from September 21 to October 6, and it will involve some of the best football countries in Asia.
Pakistan will face the bulk of the powerhouse teams in the region in Division 1: India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand.
The tournament has been organised to give more exposure and competition to rising football nations from the region and to promote football development in the region.
