Pakistan-Iran border trade part of bilateral agreements: Iranian ambassador

Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan Reza Amiri Moghadam has clarified that Iran has not closed its borders with Pakistan and has imposed no restrictions on exports, including liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).

In a statement on X, the Iranian ambassador said Iran’s borders with all neighbouring countries remained open and that suspending cross-border trade with Pakistan was not a viable option under the current circumstances.

He said the situation had arisen following changes to Pakistan’s e-form procedure, which had made it difficult for traders to dispatch goods. Consultations with Pakistani authorities were underway to resolve the issue.

The ambassador added that several hundred LPG trucks had crossed the Rimdan border and reached Gabd, but their cargo had not been unloaded despite the passage of several weeks. The delay in clearing the trucks had created difficulties for bilateral trade.

He stressed that cross-border trade between Pakistan and Iran was part of bilateral agreements and served the shared interests of both countries and their people.

Amiri Moghadam said Iran had made every possible effort to facilitate bilateral trade and reiterated that closing the borders would benefit neither side.
