Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, on Wednesday instructed Pakistan Railways to improve public convenience and ensure safe rail travel across its network, while also reinforcing railway freight services to increase economic activity.
During a meeting with Federal Minister for Railways Mohammad Hanif Abbasi, who visited him in Islamabad, the PM expressed his approval of the recent measures implemented by Pakistan Railways to improve passenger amenities such as safe travel.
The meeting assessed current development projects, operational issues, and advancements on various initiatives designed to improve railway infrastructure. Additionally, both parties shared perspectives on matters of mutual interest.
Pakistan Railways bans media coverage
Earlier, Pakistan Railways banned media coverage and vlogging of its operations, infrastructure, and restricted areas, according to reports on Sunday.
It also stopped the publication of any content about the department without getting a written permission before.
In a social media message, Pakistan Railways told journalists, vloggers, bloggers, content creators, and social media users, as well as railway staff helping them, that they have to get approval before covering anything related to the department.
This month, Pakistan Railways also introduced a major fare relief initiative, announcing a 50 per cent discount on train tickets for the spouses of working journalists across its network.
According to an official notification approved by the CEO/Senior General Manager, the concession would be available to eligible journalists’ wives, allowing them to avail a half-price discount on up to ten single journeys.
