PM Shehbaz directs faster implementation of ‘Apna Ghar Scheme’

The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, has instructed officials to improve and expand facilities under the “Apna Ghar Scheme” for citizens during a high level meeting, according to reports on Friday.

A high level meeting was held in Islamabad under the Prime Minister’s chairmanship. The meeting reviewed the progress of the scheme in detail.

Apna Ghar Scheme

Officials told the Prime Minister that many people from across the country are joining the program, and that its use is growing quickly. They also said that the application work is moving ahead at a fast pace.

The Prime Minister said that owning a home is a basic need for every citizen. He stressed that the scheme should be made more effective and faster.

He further directed officials to make the application and approval process easier for people.

He also told banks to speed up the approval of complete and correct applications so that the people who are eligible can get homes without delay. He added that the process should be transparent and quick.

The meeting also discussed issues related to Pakistan Railways. The Prime Minister approved a strategic plan to improve the railway system. He said that reforms in the railway sector are very important.

He directed that private companies should be involved through public private partnerships. He said that this would improve performance and help provide better and more modern travel services to the public.

Govt proposes 17 per cent increase in BISP budget

The Federal Finance Minister of Pakistan, Muhammad Aurangzeb, said on Friday during the Budget 2026-27 session that a record 17 per cent increase has been proposed for the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) budget.

While presenting the federal budget in the National Assembly, he said that the total BISP budget is proposed to be increased to Rs838 billion.

He said that the Kafalat Programme will be expanded and its coverage will reach 12 million families across the country.
