The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and global technology company Meta have announced a new partnership to strengthen online safety for young internet users in Pakistan.
According to the announcement, PTA and Meta have signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) to work together on initiatives that enhance online protection and improve digital awareness across the country. The mutual agreement agrees upon shared commitment to helping users, particularly younger audiences.

The agreement was announced during a ceremony attended by PTA Chairman Major General (Retired) Hafeez Ur Rehman. He said the collaboration demonstrates PTA’s commitment to improving secure online environment for the youth of Pakistan.
Through educational campaigns and collaborative programmes, PTA – Meta partnership aims to equip users with the knowledge needed to recognise online threats, protect their personal information, and use digital platforms responsibly. As social media usage continue to expand rapidly across Pakistan, awareness, education, and cooperation between regulators and technology companies have become essential for reducing cyber risks.
On the other hand, earlier, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) introduced facial verification as an alternative method for SIM registration. This method will be useful for users who face difficulties with fingerprint-based biometric verification.
The proposal primarily targets senior citizens and manual labourers, whose fingerprints often fail during the biometric verification process required for obtaining a SIM card.
In a report submitted to the government and Parliament, PTA said it made significant progress in developing a secure alternative verification mechanism.
