The Punjab School Education Department has officially declared a comprehensive programme for the celebration of the 80th Independence Day on August 14, 2026, which is calling for maximum possible participation of people across the province with enthusiasm, patriotic sentiment and unity.

The official instructions have been issued to all public educational institutions, government departments, autonomous bodies, district administration etc., to organise Independence Day events as per the approved schedule.

The celebrations will include flag hoisting, singing the national anthem, speeches, cultural activities and other events to instil a sense of pride among the students and citizens of the country.

The department has called upon all its citizens to celebrate this historic occasion with renewed commitment towards Pakistan and spread the message of unity, discipline and commitment towards the development of the country.

Meanwhile, the Pakistanis will also get a three day holiday to celebrate the event.

The public holiday falls on a Friday, August 14, and the following weekend will be the normal Saturday and Sunday, so that citizens will have a more substantial break to enjoy celebrations, travel or time with family.

Nationally, it is anticipated that people will celebrate by having flag hoisting ceremonies, rallies, cultural events, firework displays and community gatherings.

National flags, green-and-white lights and patriotic displays are also likely to be seen adorning homes, markets, public buildings and key roads, and set up in a festive mood throughout the nation.
