Punjab announces new scholarships, transport support for students

The Chief Minister (CM) of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, has approved of new steps to improve and standardise college education across the province on Saturday. She also approved transport support and more scholarships for students.

She chaired a meeting to review projects of the School Education Department and the Higher Education Department.

The Chief Minister ordered that all commerce colleges in Punjab be linked with public universities. In total, 36 colleges in 29 districts will be connected to 19 government universities.

Maryam Nawaz also approved the setup of modern IT labs in 166 public colleges.

She further directed officials to give laptops to minority students on merit. She also approved scholarships for visually impaired and other special-needs students in the second phase.

Officials said that Google will offer free certification courses to over 100,000 students in Punjab.

The meeting also shared that 98 per cent of students were satisfied with the laptop scheme.

Around 994,000 students took the Grade 8 exams under the Punjab Examination Commission. Girls had a 92 per cent pass rate, while boys had an 84 per cent pass rate.

Maryam Nawaz showed happiness that girls got the top three positions in the exams.

Punjab govt announces scholarships for teachers

The Punjab government has announced a scholarship program for ALP (Accelerated Learning Program) teachers to support education.

According to details, 15,000 scholarships will be given to teachers in different districts.

The program has a clear plan to distribute scholarships based on qualifications and subjects to improve teaching in ALP.

Each selected teacher will get Rs20,000. Applicants must be between 20 and 55 years old and meet the required education criteria. People with a BA or BSc degree can also apply.

The scholarships will be given to different types of teachers. This includes primary and subject teachers. Quotas have been set for each district to ensure fair distribution.
