The school education departments of Punjab and Sindh are modernising monitoring systems in government schools to improve attendance, academic performance and the quality of education through digital technology.
Under the new initiatives, authorities are using online monitoring platforms to track teacher and student attendance, classroom teaching activities and school infrastructure.
Punjab introduces 11 indicators for school monitoring
The Punjab School Education Department has developed 11 indicators for monitoring government schools, with a total score of 100 marks to assess school performance.
Academic performance has been given the highest weightage, with 20 marks allocated to this category. Meanwhile, 10 marks are assigned for achieving 100% student attendance, while five marks are allocated for new student enrolments.
The department has also introduced real-time online monitoring of primary sections. Assistant Education Officers (AEOs) are required to submit reports through a dedicated monitoring application to improve oversight and ensure timely reporting.
Sindh launches digital student attendance system
In Sindh, the provincial government, in collaboration with UNICEF and the World Bank, has introduced the Student Attendance Monitoring and Redress System (SAMRS) to strengthen school attendance monitoring through digital technology.
Under the system, students are being issued unique identification numbers and QR codes to facilitate attendance tracking. The platform also enables parents to receive automatic alerts through SMS and WhatsApp when their children remain absent from school repeatedly.
The digital initiative aims to improve communication between schools and parents, identify persistent absenteeism and strengthen accountability in the public education system.
