Quetta Deputy Commissioner Mehrullah Badini has said that rising flour prices are a nationwide issue, with similar trends reported in different parts of the country. He added that the district administration is taking measures to prevent hoarding and artificial price hikes and protect consumers from profiteering.

Speaking to the media during an open court session on Wednesday, Badini said the administration had developed a mechanism in coordination with the Food Department and the Industries Department to review flour prices every week.

Under the mechanism, flour prices will be assessed regularly, while price control committees of the district administration will ensure that officially prescribed rates are implemented across subdivisions and tehsils.

The deputy commissioner also said that action against begging is included in the district administration’s monthly performance review. He explained that complaints regarding beggary are addressed in coordination with assistant commissioners and the Social Welfare Department. He added that 18 individuals involved in begging were arrested and sent to jail during operations conducted last week.

Discussing parking issues in the city, Badini said designated parking areas are leased out by the Metropolitan Corporation Quetta (MCQ), generating revenue for the government. However, complaints about illegal parking facilities and unauthorised motorcycle stands are dealt with through inspections and enforcement measures.

He said the administration had received a complaint two days earlier about an unauthorised motorcycle stand at Imdad Chowk. Following an inspection, the administrative team confirmed that the stand was illegal and removed it immediately.

Badini reiterated that the district administration would continue working to address public complaints, ensure the availability of essential commodities at official prices, prevent hoarding and profiteering, and eliminate illegal parking facilities across Quetta.
