The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has predicted rain and thunderstorms in Punjab, KP, Gilgit and various areas of Azaad Kashmir.

As per the latest weather advisory, a high alert has been issued for several regions of the country, warning of thunderstorms, torrential rain, strong winds and severe hailstorms over the next 12 to 24 hours.

The authority has directed provincial administrations and emergency services to remain on high alert and ensure contingency plans are in place as adverse weather conditions are expected to affect parts of Punjab, KP, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azaad Jammu and Kashmir.

According to the NDMA, rain and windstorms are forecast in Islamabad and numerous districts of Punjab, including Rawalpindi, Lahore, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Gujrat, Jhelum, Chakwal, Attock, Mianwali, Dera Ghazi Khan, Okara, Sahiwal, Multan, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan and Hafizabad.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the weather system is expected to affect Peshawar, Swat, Malakand, Mardan, Nowshera, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Chitral, Kohat, Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan.

Forecasters have also predicted rainfall across several parts of Gilgit-Baltistan, including Skardu, Hunza, Nagar, Gilgit, Diamer, Ghanche, Astore and Shigar, as well as Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley, Poonch, Kotli, Bagh and Bhimber in Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

The NDMA warned that severe hailstorms could damage vulnerable structures and infrastructure, posing risks to public safety.

Authorities have also expressed concern over the possibility of landslides and glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs) in northern mountainous regions, including Hunza, Nagar, Gilgit, Chilas, Astore, Skardu, Chitral, Kalam, Upper Kohistan and parts of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

Several major routes, including the Karakoram Highway, Naran Road and the Jaglot-Skardu Road, may face temporary closures due to landslides or flooding, officials said.

Travel to high-altitude tourist destinations such as Kalam, Kundol, Arang Kel, Dasu, Patan and Chitral could also be disrupted, with authorities urging visitors to follow safety advisories and avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather.

The warning comes after powerful winds and thunderstorms swept through parts of Punjab late on Friday night, causing significant damage, particularly in Bahawalpur and nearby areas.

Officials said one person was killed and at least 13 others were injured after walls and roofs collapsed during the storm. Trees and solar panels were also damaged at multiple locations, while firefighters worked for several hours to extinguish blazes that broke out in a storage facility and a brick kiln.

Emergency authorities have advised residents to remain indoors during severe weather, secure loose objects and stay updated through official forecasts and warnings.
