A suspect was killed after opening fire at a security forces’ vehicle on Mall Road in Rawalpindi.
According to security sources, a security forces’ vehicle was travelling on its routine duty when a passerby opened fire at it with a 9mm pistol.
Personnel deployed on the vehicle responded in self-defence in accordance with the law and standard operating procedures (SOPs), resulting in the suspect’s death.
Security sources identified the deceased as Muhammad Hussain, a resident of Khyber district, and he was an active member of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
A party flag, weapon, ammunition and important documents were recovered from the suspect’s possession, according to security sources.
Further investigation into the incident is underway.

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Atta Tarar has exposed the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI’s) repeated use of protests to create unrest, saying that “not a single PTI protest has been peaceful” since the party began its political movement.
Tarar said PTI wanted to disrupt peace and stability in Pakistan rather than engage in peaceful political activity.
He further said that the party could not tolerate Pakistan’s progress and success, saying PTI is attempting to create instability whenever the country moves toward economic and political development.
Earlier, PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja stated that September 27 will not be a one-day protest call, warning that party workers will remain in Islamabad until their objectives are achieved.
In a statement, Raja said the final strategy for the September 27 protest will be announced soon. He added that PTI is also planning to convene an All Parties Conference (APC) as part of its future political strategy.
Speaking about the provinces, he said that smaller provinces should be created so that people can receive better facilities and their rights can be ensured more effectively. He added that discussions on creating new provinces are legitimate, but no decision should be made until genuine representatives of the people are present in the assemblies.
However, Salman Akram Raja made it clear that PTI would not become part of any such initiative without taking Imran Khan into confidence. He further said that PTI’s demand is for Imran Khan to be provided medical treatment in a hospital and given access to his personal doctors. Commenting on Jamaat-e-Islami’s nationwide protest against rising petroleum prices, Salman Akram Raja said that Jamaat-e-Islami had not invited PTI to participate in tomorrow’s protest.
