The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has started action against illegal housing schemes and unauthorised construction in Rawalpindi, according to reports today.
The RDA teams carried out operations at three different sites. They removed and demolished illegal structures during the action.
The operation was carried out on the orders of Rawalpindi Division Commissioner and RDA Director General Salman Ghani.
Where is RDA taking action?
The enforcement team took action at Downtown Morgah on Defence Road opposite Askari-14. It also targeted a land subdivision near Dhok Nawaz Graveyard.
The third operation was carried out at an illegal housing scheme near Riaz Chowk in Morgah.
Officials removed several illegal structures from the sites. These included roads, manholes, sewerage pipelines and barriers.
The RDA said the action was taken under the Punjab Development of Cities Act, 1976. The authority also used its Building and Zoning Regulations and other relevant laws.
What other action is planned?
An RDA spokesperson said the authority will continue its operations against illegal construction and unauthorised development, according to media reports.
The authority will also take action against unlawful commercial activities in areas under its control.
Other action taken by RDA
Before this, the RDA had intensified its action against illegal and unauthorised housing schemes in areas under its control.
The action was taken on the directions of Rawalpindi Commissioner and acting RDA Director General Salman Ghani.
The RDA’s Metropolitan Planning and Traffic Engineering (MP&TE) Directorate has issued show-cause notices to the owners and management of two housing schemes. The schemes are Saffron City and Taj Residencia.
Notice issued to Taj Residencia
According to the RDA, Taj Residencia was issued a notice over alleged violations of housing laws and regulations.
The authority said the scheme was advertising and taking bookings for plots in several blocks and sectors. These included Lotus, Cosmos and Blue Bell.
The RDA said these areas are not included in the layout plan approved by the authority.
