Where will govt establish sacrificial animal markets in Islamabad?

Islamabad has set a new benchmark with the auction of six temporary cattle markets for sacrificial animals, fetching a record Rs 349.5 million ahead of the forthcoming event of Eidul Azha.

The sacrificial animal’s temporary markets are being established at Federal Capital sector 1-12, Zia Masjid, Sangjani, Bhara Kahu, Lehtrar Road and the Islamabad Expressway.

Authorities viewed that the cashless payment system would be introduced across all markets to ensure transparency and merit in operations.

Highest bid

The highest bid came for the Sector I-12/1 market, which was auctioned for Rs 200.1 million. Other major auctions include Sangiani at Rs 62.5 million, Zia Masjid at Rs 50 million, Sultana Foundation at Rs 25 million, Japan Road at Rs 6.2 million, and Bhara Kahu at Rs 6.1 million.

Officials describe the development as a significant step toward organised and transparent management of sacrificial animal markets in the capital.

This represents an increase of approximately 120 per cent compared to last year’s auction of temporary cattle markets. A total of 104 bidders participated in the auction process.

DMA teams maintain continuous surveillance

To prevent the establishment of illegal cattle markets in the city, the relevant DMA teams are maintaining continuous surveillance in various areas.

It is worth mentioning here that last year, 2025 govt had established sacrificial animals markets at various designated locations in the federal capital, including Sangjani, Sector I-15, Bhara Kahu, Lehtrar Road, and the Islamabad Expressway.

The market had been established over 1,000 kanals and divided into blocks for better management. Special attention had been given to ensuring the availability of water, electricity, and proper security arrangements. Each trader had allocated 150 to 200 square feet of space to conduct business in an organised manner.

Prices of cows, goats, sheep, and other animals available in the market are higher. The price of a goat ranges from Rs 50,000 to Rs 350,000, depending on its characteristics.
