The new cabinet of the United Kingdom (UK) has reappointed Shabana Mahmood as Home Secretary once again.
Britain’s new Prime Minister Andy Burnham has unveiled his first cabinet after taking office, reshuffling several senior ministerial positions and reappointing Shabana Mahmood as Home Secretary.
According to official announcements, Burnham has removed several close allies of former Prime Minister Keir Starmer from key cabinet posts while reorganising ministerial responsibilities to align with his government’s priorities.
Shabana Mahmood, a British politician of Pakistani heritage, has been reappointed Home Secretary and will oversee the government’s immigration and asylum reforms. Political analysts said her reappointment signals the new administration’s intention to continue pursuing changes to the UK’s immigration system.
Among other key appointments, former defence secretary John Healey has been named chancellor, while Ed Miliband has been appointed foreign secretary. Yvette Cooper will serve as health and social care secretary, while Pat McFadden retains his position as work and pensions secretary.
Speaking after assuming office, Prime Minister Burnham said his government would soon unveil a 10-year national plan aimed at tackling inflation, strengthening the economy, providing relief to households, addressing homelessness and supporting the country’s industrial sector.
