Pakistan’s star cricketer Shahid Afridi has lashed out at government over the continuous increase in petrol prices, saying the rising cost is not solely linked to global factors.
Afridi said government inefficiency was also a major reason behind the increasing burden on the public. He argued that when tax collection targets are not achieved, the financial pressure is shifted onto ordinary citizens through heavy taxes on petrol.
He said inflation has already made it difficult for the common man to earn enough to meet basic needs, including putting food on the table.
Afridi urged the authorities to provide relief to the public, saying people are already facing severe financial difficulties. “Please create some ease for the people; they are already in hardship,” Afridi said.

The Oil & Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) on Friday changed the petrol and diesel prices, with the new rates taking effect from Saturday, September 12.
The price of petrol was increased by Rs5.2, and the price of diesel was increased by Rs5,28. A notification has been issued in this regard as well.
The price of petrol has been set at Rs375.82 per litre, and the price of diesel has been set at Rs403.32 per litre. These prices have been changed for the next 3 days, till September 14.
What are the petrol and diesel prices in Pakistan?
Previously, OGRA announced new prices for petroleum products. The rates of high-speed diesel and petrol were changed again.
According to the notification, the price of petrol has been increased by Rs 3.05 per litre, while the price of high-speed diesel has risen by Rs 5.37 per litre.
The new prices of petroleum products came into effect from September 11, 2026.
Previously, the price of petrol was increased by Rs 12.90 per litre. The price of high-speed diesel was increased by Rs 3.72 per litre.
The new price of petrol had been fixed at Rs 358.77 per litre. Similarly, the new price of diesel had been fixed at Rs 381.77 per litre.
Before that, on Friday, the price of petrol had been set at Rs345.87 per litre, and the price of diesel had been set at Rs378.5 per litre. These prices had been changed for the next three days, till September 7.
The price of petrol was decreased by Rs3.13, and the price of diesel was increased by Rs3.74.
How much has govt raised petrol, diesel dealers’ margin?
The government has increased the profit margin for petrol and diesel dealers by Rs1.34 per litre.
The new margin will apply across Pakistan. Dealers will now get Rs9.98 per litre instead of Rs8.64.
Sources said the decision was taken after dealers raised concerns about higher business costs. They had been asking the government to increase their margins for some time.
