The School Education and Literacy Department has announced a public holiday on August 4 for all public and private schools across Sindh on the occasion of Chehlum of Imam Hussain.
The department has also issued an official notification about the holiday. The College Education Department has made the same announcement for all public and private colleges in the province. Colleges will also remain closed on Tuesday, August 4.
The Sindh government, previously on Monday, announced a public holiday across the province on Wednesday, July 29, on the occasion of the annual urs of renowned Sufi poet Hazrat Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai (RA).
Earlier, the Sindh government ended the weekly Saturday holiday in all public and private schools. From August 1, schools across the province will follow a six-day working week.
According to a notification issued by the School Education and Literacy Department, all schools under its control will hold classes from Monday to Saturday until further notice.
The notification said the new schedule replaces the department’s previous orders on weekly school timings.
Punjab ‘to extend’ school summer holidays
Summer holidays in Punjab schools may be extended until September 1 because of heavy monsoon rains and flooding in different parts of the province.
The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has recommended that schools in flood-affected areas should not reopen until conditions improve.
According to reports, the proposal has been sent to the School Education Department for final approval. A final decision will be made after reviewing the situation.
If the proposal is approved, students will get one more week of summer holidays. Schools were previously scheduled to reopen on August 24.
The PDMA said schools in affected areas should stay closed until floodwaters recede. The Punjab government has also ordered inspections of schools and other government buildings that may have been damaged by the heavy rains.
