Student found dead at tuition centre

The post-mortem report of a 10-year-old schoolgirl who was found dead at a tuition centre in Lahore’s Ichra area has revealed that she died from asphyxiation caused by hanging.

The death of the Year 6 pupil has sparked a police investigation, with authorities examining all possible angles, including suicide, murder and any other potential cause.

Following the post-mortem examination, the girl’s body was handed over to her family for burial.

According to the preliminary post-mortem report, the cause of death was suffocation after hanging. A ligature mark was found around her neck, while no other signs of physical violence or forced injury were detected on her body.

Sources said the exact cause and circumstances of the death will only be determined after the completion of forensic and chemical examination reports.

Police have sent fingerprints and DNA samples collected from the scene to a forensic laboratory for analysis.

The incident occurred on Thursday when the 10-year-old attended her tuition class in Ichra. During the lesson, she reportedly went to the washroom. After she failed to return for more than 10 minutes, staff forced the washroom door open and found her unresponsive. She was later pronounced dead.

The girl’s father said two of his other daughters also attended the same tuition centre. He said he received a phone call informing him that his daughter had fallen unconscious. He rushed to the centre and took her to the hospital, where doctors told him she had died before arriving.

Police have described the case as highly suspicious and said investigations are continuing from all possible angles.

Investigators have taken the owner of the tuition centre building into custody for questioning and have seized CCTV footage from the premises and surrounding area as part of the inquiry.

Police sources also claimed that preliminary information suggests the girl may previously have attempted suicide. However, officers stressed that all aspects of the case are being investigated and that no conclusions will be drawn until the inquiry and forensic examinations are complete.
