A letter written by a passenger on the Titanic is expected to sell for £35,000 at auction, the international media outlet reported on Tuesday.
The passenger on the Titanic named Henry Price Hodges wrote a letter to his friend a few days before the ship sank. Hodges wrote a letter on April 10 to Hector Young – the person who was working for the Newtown Conservative Association in Southampton.
Henry Price Hodges was travelling across the Atlantic to visit his family in Boston. Unfortunately, Hodges became one of the 1500 passengers who died when the 1912’s most horrific ship sank on April 15.
A spokesperson for Henry Aldridge & Son said the letter provides a rare and priceless glimpse into life aboard the Titanic.
Hodges started his journey from Southampton to New York City for a £13 second-class ticket.
The letter was stamped in Queenstown, now known as Cobh, the Titanic’s last stop in Ireland before crossing the Atlantic.
The letter written by Hodges said, “Dear Hector, very many thanks for the telegram and for the good wishes. It was a kind and thoughtful act and much appreciated, and you will please convey my thanks to the members of our association.
“Wasn’t it good of the President to come and see me off? I almost believe I could have persuaded him to come along. We have had a fine time up to now.
“You do not see anything of the movement of the ship, but the weather is very fine.”
“Tell your dad I am very disappointed he did not come, but I know he could not help it, and it was more than expected by your brother coming instead.
“I am going to bed early, for I feel as tired as a dead dog,” he added.
