Transport fares rise as inflation makes return after petrol price hike

Following the recent increase in the prices of petroleum products, the transport sector in the country has announced a hike in fares, which is raising public fears of further increase in inflation.

The Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance has announced that goods transport fares will be increased by 10 percent across the country due to the increase in fuel prices.

The decision was announced by the Alliance’s President Malik Shahzad Awan, who strongly criticised the increase in the prices of petroleum products.

In his statement, Malik Shahzad Awan said that transporters condemn this decision of the government because the repeated increase in fuel prices is not only increasing transport fares but is also intensifying the inflation pressure in the country.

He said that the burden on the transport sector is increasing as a result of the current policies, which is having a direct impact on the common consumers and employment opportunities.

Malik Shahzad Awan said that the increase in fuel prices not only increases the cost of freight but also has a negative impact on overall economic activities. He said that the government should review such policies that are affecting both the business community and the common citizen.

Along with this, the President of Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance demanded that the challans and fines should be imposed by various institutions including Motorway Police, Traffic Police should also be reviewed.
