Which universities in Punjab have announced online classes?

Several universities in Punjab have announced online classes for this week as a precautionary measure due to heightened security ahead of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest.

Universities in Islamabad include: COMSATS, KMU, Hamdard University, National Skills University, Air University, Fazaia Medical College, Baharia University, International Islamic University, NUTECH, NUML, and others.

Other major universities include: Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University (Rawalpindi), UOP (Jhelum Campus), Fatima Jinnah Women University (Rawalpindi), and UET (Taxila).

So far, other major cities in Punjab, including Lahore and Faisalabad, have not announced online classes, while the twin cities have not announced any local holidays either.

Islamabad Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon has said that all entry and exit points of the federal capital are open, traffic is flowing normally on all major roads, and commercial activities are continuing as usual.

However, the police have placed around 2,000 containers across the federal capital and at Attock Bridge, an entry point from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the northern parts of the country. In addition, Section 144 is in force in Islamabad, under which gatherings are prohibited. Gatherings are also banned under the Public Order Act 2024, with violators facing up to three years in prison. The district administration has urged citizens not to participate in any illegal activities.

Earlier, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi warned PTI against its proposed September 27 long march.
