NDMA weather alert: heavy rain, hailstorms expected across Pakistan

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a weather alert for different parts of Pakistan from May 26 to 31. The weather is expected to be rainy with thunderstorms, hailstorms, flash floods, and landslides.

The authority warned that rising temperatures in northern areas are causing glaciers to melt quickly. This increases the risk of glacial lake outburst floods and landslides. In addition to this rising water levels in streams and rivers can also be expected.

According to the advisory, several roads in mountainous areas may also be blocked due to heavy rain and landslides.

Sensitive roads include the Karakoram Highway, Naran Road, Jaglot-Skardu Road, Shigar Valley Road, Skardu Road, and Deosai Road, where landslides could block traffic.

The authority also warned of possible flooding in areas such as Darkot, Lasht, Ishkoman, Panduro, Reshun, Boni, Shisper, Gulkin, and Kumrat.
