What to expect from Apple’s upcoming macOS 27 update

As attention builds ahead of Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 8, much of the spotlight has been on the next iPhone software. However, macOS 27 is also shaping up to be a significant update for Mac users, bringing a mix of artificial intelligence features, design improvements and performance upgrades.

While many details remain under wraps, reports suggest Apple is aiming to make Macs feel more useful in everyday life rather than simply adding flashy new features.

One of the most talked-about changes is expected to be a smarter version of Siri. The voice assistant has often played a minor role on Macs, but that could change with macOS 27. Apple is reportedly working on a more capable Siri with a refreshed interface and deeper integration across the system.

For users, that could mean easier ways to complete tasks, find information and control apps through simple voice commands.

Apple prepares a wave of AI-powered features

Artificial intelligence is expected to be a major part of the update. Apple’s Photos app could gain new editing features that allow users to expand the edges of an image or adjust its framing after a photo has been taken.

The Shortcuts app may also become much easier to use. Instead of building automations step by step, users could simply describe what they want in plain language and let AI create the shortcut automatically.

Other expected additions include improved writing tools with grammar checking, enhanced text generation and rewriting options, plus a Safari feature that automatically sorts browser tabs into groups. For people who regularly keep dozens of tabs open, that could help reduce clutter and improve organisation.

Apple is also said to be testing more realistic image generation capabilities and wallpaper creation tools powered by AI.

Beyond new features, performance appears to be a major focus. Reports indicate Apple wants macOS 27 to deliver smoother operation, fewer bugs and better overall reliability. The approach has been compared to previous updates that prioritised refinement over major visual changes.

The update may also mark the end of the line for Intel-powered Macs. macOS 27 is expected to require an M1 chip or newer, leaving older Intel machines unable to upgrade.

Developers are likely to get access to the software shortly after the WWDC keynote, with a public beta expected in July and a wider release planned for the autumn. For Mac users, the update could bring a faster, smarter and more capable computing experience.
