The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has introduced modern ATM-style ‘self-service kiosks’ to help citizens save time and avoid long queues at NADRA centres.
What can citizens do with these machines?
With these automated machines, citizens can now complete several ID-related services themselves without going to a counter or waiting for their turn.
Through the new kiosks, citizens can renew their identity cards and NICOPs. They can also get replacement cards for lost or damaged identity cards, cancel documents and obtain Family Registration Certificates within minutes.
How to use the new kiosk system?
Citizens will have to verify their identity through fingerprint biometrics on the device. Then they can select the required service on the touchscreen to complete the process step by step.
NADRA spokesperson Syed Shabahat Ali said that the new automated system would allow around 65 to 70 per cent of citizens to complete their work without going to a counter. This will significantly reduce crowds and rush at NADRA centres.
Where is it available?
The self-service kiosks are currently available at selected locations. These include NADRA’s Mega Centre in Islamabad, such as the Blue Area office.
According to reports, NADRA plans to expand the service to major centres in Karachi, railway stations, airports and public shopping malls as well.
NADRA has also started a pilot project for the reprinting of identity cards through 18 selected e-Sahulat franchises in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore and Karachi.
Citizens can also submit their applications from home through NADRA’s ‘PakID’ mobile app and online portal.
For cases requiring complex biometric verification or additional documents, NADRA’s 963 registration centres, 14 mega centres and 234 mobile registration vans across the country will continue to provide services as before.
NADRA registration drive for minority communities
Recently, NADRA launched a special registration drive for minority communities in Pakistan. The campaign is being held from August 10 to 13 as part of National Minorities Day activities.
Under the campaign, special teams are visiting areas with large minority populations. The teams are using mobile registration vans to provide identity services closer to people’s homes. NADRA has asked the members of minority communities to use these services.
