Due to Jamaat-e-Islami’s nationwide strike against petroleum products and the levy tax, business centres remain closed, while incidents of arson and violence were carried out by unidentified individuals in Karachi.
However, in Lahore and Rawalpindi, the calls for a shutdown failed completely.
Near Korangi Crossing, unidentified individuals started arson and violence. The unidentified individuals placed barricades on roads and set tyres on fire. The unidentified individuals also set two motorcycles on fire. CM Sindh has taken notice of this incident.
In Mausamiyat, Safoora Chowrangi and surrounding areas, unidentified individuals also forced businesses to close. Shops and petrol pumps that opened early in the morning were forced to shut down.
On the appeal of the Jamaat-e-Islami Emir, business and commercial centres in the capital are partially closed. Traders have supported Jamaat-e-Islami’s movement against the petroleum levy.
Most shops are closed in various business centres, including Super Market, Aabpara, G-8 and G-9. Citizens closed their businesses today on the appeal of the Jamaat-e-Islami Emir.
On the call of Jamaat-e-Islami Emir Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman, business centres in various areas of Lahore, including Queen’s Road, Abid Market, Hall Road, Mall Road, Nisbat Road Market, Ferozepur Road and Burnth Road, are closed.
Daily life has been affected due to the strike. The public is demanding the abolition of the levy and a reduction in the prices of petroleum products.
Like the rest of the country, a strike is also underway in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa against the petroleum levy, inflation, unemployment and lawlessness.
All small and large business centres in Lower Dir are completely closed, while public transport has disappeared from the roads due to the strike, causing difficulties for citizens.
On the other hand, talks between the government and Jamaat-e-Islami negotiating committees regarding Jamaat-e-Islami’s nationwide shutter-down strike against the petroleum levy will be held today at Mansoorah. The government delegation will reach Mansoorah in the afternoon.
According to sources, Jamaat-e-Islami’s negotiating team will be led by Jamaat-e-Islami Deputy Emir Liaquat Baloch.
The government’s negotiating delegation will include Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Senator Rana Sanaullah, Federal Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik and Bilal Kayani. Senior government officials will also accompany the government delegation and will brief the Jamaat-e-Islami team on government measures and proposals during the talks.
Sources say that if the government presents a relief package for the public, Jamaat-e-Islami Emir Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman will also meet with the government delegation.
