Doctors and patients were trapped in a lift at the Surgical Complex of Jinnah Hospital in Karachi for around 30 minutes after it stopped working.
How did the lift malfunction?
Doctors said the lift has been causing problems for several days. They said it sometimes starts on its own and then suddenly stops.
The lift got stuck between floors today. The people inside remained trapped for about half an hour before the lift started working on its own.
Doctors warned that the faulty lift could lead to a serious accident if the problem is not fixed. They said emergency patients are also taken through the same lift.
According to the doctors, the lift often does not stop at the floor where they need to go. This creates further problems for patients and hospital staff.
Doctors also said that they have been reporting the issue to the administration for the past three days.
However, they claimed that the hospital administration says the lift does not come under its control.
They said no one is willing to take responsibility for the problem despite its seriousness.
Administration gives clarification
The hospital administration said the lift at the Surgical Complex is operated under the supervision of PEF.
It said the Jinnah Hospital administration cannot take action regarding the lift because it does not come under its control.
