The United Arab Emirates’ Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation has introduced a modern digital work permit service for bringing employees from abroad.

With this new facility, individuals finding employment will be able to submit applications online from home, due to which paperwork and lengthy administrative procedures have been completely eliminated.

The United Arab Emirates has taken another major step towards attracting global talent and further digitising the country’s economy.

According to the instructions issued by the ministry, employers will be able to upload the required information and all necessary documents on the online portal and complete the recruitment process in an extremely short time.

The basic objective of this initiative is to make the recruitment process easier, faster and more effective so that the valuable time of business organisations can be saved.

All Recruitment Expenses Are the Employer’s Responsibility

Under the new instructions, it has been strictly clarified that all expenses incurred while bringing workers from abroad will be solely the responsibility of the employer (the person giving the job).

These expenses include recruitment fees, government employment fees, medical expenses, health insurance, required contributions and other guarantees.

This means that no hidden fee of any kind can be charged from the employee, which is an extremely welcome development for foreign workers.

The UAE’s Smart Vision

This new service is actually part of the United Arab Emirates’ broader vision, under which it is working to make all its government services 100 per cent digital and “paperless.”

Over the past few years, the UAE has introduced numerous facilities for foreigners, such as the Golden Visa, Green Visa and freelance permit, so that it can become the world’s largest hub for talent.

In addition, this new digital work permit is part of efforts aimed at making doing business in the country easier (ease of doing business).

Impact on the Business Community and Workers

The United Arab Emirates’ initiative can be described as killing two birds with one stone. On the one hand, it is a major facility for the business community, as they will no longer need to visit different government offices or waste time dealing with piles of files. With just a few clicks, they will be able to directly hire the best talent from anywhere in the world.

On the other hand, this initiative provides protection to foreign workers. In the past, it was often seen that recruitment agents charged heavy fees to workers from poor countries. Now, since all expenses have legally been placed on the employer and the process has been made transparent (digital), the chances of fraud and exploitation will almost disappear.

Overall, this new system will make the UAE’s labour market more transparent, attractive and aligned with global standards.
